Dead Ends & Dad
a father and daughter story at the Dead Ends and Cake
500 km / 9000 m+
The Kesenheimer’s
Jana Kesneheimer is already a well-known figure in the self-supported ultra-cycling scene. Many stories have been told about her—in films, podcasts, on stages, and out on the roads.
But this one is truly special.
On June 19, Jana will start the Dead Ends and Cake – Self-Supported Bikepacking Challenge together with her father. The route leads to five dead ends, where riders stop to eat a piece of cake each time, before returning to the finish after 500 km and more than 9,000 meters of climbing.
Jana’s father, a passionate cyclist from the very beginning, has shared many adventures and races with her—but never an ultra.
Why this Film will have an audience.
After several films I’ve already made about Jana, the interest in her story has continued to grow. The trust that Jana and I share creates authentic, unforced, and real moments—something clearly visible in Letting Go, Three Peaks and in Between, and The Transcontinental Race.

Why This Film Matters
Since her first appearance in Three Peaks and in Between, Jana has for years been a role model for many young women and girls, showing what is possible.
Her unique relationship with her father—who first introduced her to cycling and now, after retiring, has the opportunity to experience this intense journey with his daughter—resonates with many people, including male riders in the cycling community.
